Zari & Zari Zardozi Handicrafts
Zari is a fine glittering thread of gold or silver used in embroidery work on sarees and Indian suits and dresses. Zari work is hall mark of Indian garments and fabric. But the preferred media is silk sarees and suits.
Real and imitation zari are best produced in the Surat in the state of Gujarat. Real zari is made of silver flattened as required and than plated with gold. Zari making is deep rooted in India history and is a traditional art. But of late there has been transition to modern technique.
Buta - or motifs are weaved using zari on sarees and Salwar suits.
Bell- Flower designs of creeping creeping vine worked on sarees with zari thread.
Bel phool - Large flower vine pattern worked up with zari.
Bel buti - An intricate work done on sarees and suites. Mostly fine vine pattern applied on saris and Indian suits.
Borders - Zari work is usually done on Indian sarees and suit borders.
The art of Zari making and its application on Indian saris and suits impart glamour and Royal touch to the dress. Though zari increases the cost but the product is worth it. Zari is used to embellish salwar suits, lehenga, choli and Indians sarees.
In Bareilly thousands of artisans create handicraft articles out of like Indian hand bags of zari and carry purses. Skirts, Long gowns, Tops, Jackets, this work is highly acclaimed in International circles and is known as Zari Zardozi. Besides zari work Bareilly also produces other Handicraft products of repute, wooden sculptures and Bamboo work in India. .
